This section requires you to observe the patient.

Ask the patient to walk 10 steps, turn and return to the starting point using their usual walking aid if they have one.

Answer the following questions based on your observation.

Were they unsteady or at risk of losing their balance?

Did they need assistance to walk or did they steady themselves on furniture?

Did they use a walking aid?

If yes, what did they use?

Is their footwear suitable?

General Observation

Answer the following questions based on your discussions and interaction with the patient.

Are they aware of their abilities or are they overly cautious or confident?

Did they appear agitated or confused at any time throughout the assessment?
